DEJA™ produces polyester performance yarn that is made from100%post-consumer recycled PET bottles which DyeCoo’s supercritical Carbon Dioxide (sc-CO2) textile dyeing technology dyes in a closed-loop process without using water and process chemicals therefore mitigating wastewater. The production and the designmethods incorporate key environmental and sustainable aspects. They eliminate the “cut and sew”process while and offering customized on-demand production to lower material and product waste. Additionally, washing at 60°C makes repetitive use of the mask possible while all mask components are recycled for the production of other masks. It should also be noted that while the mask is knitted on a Stoll flat knitting machine, it can also be knitted on other types of machines, which allows for production flexibility. Easy Mask: Fashionable Mask, Sustainable Mindset As much as face masks help protect the wearer in mit igating the spread of the COVID-19, they unfortunately also contribute to environmental waste and pollution. In 2021, IVL collaborated with DyeCoo and Stoll to produce the EASY MASK, a fashionable mask with sustainabilityembedded in itsend-to-endproduction process by eliminating waste and reducing water and energy consumption. The EASYMASK is not only a knitted mask which is comfortable to use, it also reduces production waste to be below 1% due to its cus tomizat ion and on-demand product ion. We utilize our signature DEJA™ in the production of these masks. 81 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2021 INNOVATION-DRIVEN COLLABORATIONS An integral part of IVL’s strategy is to collaborate for success internally and externally in our commitment to sustainability. We nurture creativity and encourage our employees to take measured risks and develop ideas in the form of prototypes for further evaluation. Our Innovation Councils then review any newproposals and technologies which were developed to meet our customers needs. Our global management prioritizes innovation, research and development as key agendas wherewe can leverage global input from industry innovation specialists. The outcomes from external collaborations including our efforts involving advanced resins and fibers allowus to stay ahead of the game through our wide-scale product innovations and production. In 2021, we had 121 collaborative projects to produce innovations. Our Fibers division participated in over 30 university and research institute collaborations, with many of the collaborations being the basis of academic research and thesis. We also have engaged with raw materials suppilers on lowering their carbon footprint through using bio-based solutions and ISCC certified pol ymers. These engagaments have led to the development of new products that have entered IVL’s catalouge.
